Texas Rangers top prospect Josh Jung has surgery to repair torn labrum in left shoulder

Josh Jung, a top prospect for the Texas Rangers, had surgery Wednesday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder, ending the third baseman’s opportunity of being an option for the big league roster this spring. Jung was lifting weights before the opening of the team’s minor league camp in Arizona when he felt discomfort in his non-throwing shoulder. He was initially diagnosed last week with a strain. “That was the impetus for us getting a test on his shoulder, which revealed a level of damage that obviously has required surgery,” general manager Chris Young said. “The extent of preexisting […]

Little progress toward collective bargaining agreement as talks continue between MLB, MLBPA

Day 2 of in-person meetings Tuesday between Major League Baseball and the MLBPA once again produced little progress toward a new collective bargaining agreement while the league actually viewed the negotiations as a step back. The union cut down on its proposal for players to enter arbitration after two years, from 80% of players to 75%, but countered that by asking for more in its minimum salary structure. Instead of minimum salary raises of $25,000, the union asked for $30,000 each year of the deal. Since the Super 2 issue is a non-starter for the league, it viewed the combination […]

Medina Spirit stripped of Kentucky Derby victory; trainer Baffert suspended 90 days

Medina Spirit was stripped of the triumph in last year’s Kentucky Derby and Mandaloun was declared the winner after a ruling by state racing stewards on Monday. The since-deceased Medina Spirit tested positive after the race last May for a steroid, betamethasone, that is legal in Kentucky but banned on race day. Medina Spirit finished half a length ahead of Mandaloun in the race, giving trainer Bob Baffert what was then his seventh Kentucky Derby title. Baffert was subsequently banned for two years by Churchill Downs following the positive test. Looking for the best online betting site and Live betting? […]

Scoops Dynasty comes into Los Alamitos Winter Derby off impressive trial victory

Big things will be expected from the winner of Saturday’s $212,000 Los Alamitos Winter Derby at 400 yards. The last two winners have been among the nation’s leading 3-year-olds. Tell Cartel in 2020 and Flash Bak last year gained their first stakes in the Winter Derby and later won the Los Alamitos Super Derby in the autumn before finishing second in the Champion of Champions against older horses in December. Tell Cartel has been retired to stud, while Flash Bak will be among the favorites for Sunday’s Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship. Saturday’s Winter Derby field of 10 does […]

Tiger Woods frustrated at pace of recovery after wreck, ‘still working’ on walking with limited golf activity

Tiger Woods stated he will be back playing golf on the PGA Tour; he just doesn’t know when. As Woods, 46, nears the one-year anniversary of the car wreck that nearly cost him his right leg and led to multiple surgeries, he said Wednesday that he’s making progress — but not nearly as fast as he wants. “I wish I could tell you when I’m playing again,” Woods said during a news conference at the Genesis Invitational, which benefits his foundation. “I want to know, but I don’t. My golf activity has been very limited. I can chip and putt really […]

Washington Nationals great Ryan Zimmerman retires from MLB

Longtime Nationals star Ryan Zimmerman announced his retirement Tuesday, ending a decorated career in which he became the franchise leader in many major categories and boosted the team to its only World Series championship. The veteran infielder issued a statement via CAA Baseball in which he thanked the Nationals’ front office, managers and coaches, athletic trainers and medical staff, teammates, his agents and his family. “When we first met I was a 20-year-old kid fresh out of the University of Virginia,” he wrote. “I had no idea how unbelievable the next 17 years of my life were going to be.” The Nationals took Zimmerman with their […]

Golden State Warriors’ Klay Thompson erupts in 4th quarter to down Los Angeles Lakers

The final stretch of the Golden State Warriors’ Saturday night game versus the Los Angeles Lakers felt eerily similar to the contest they played against the New York Knicks two days before. The Warriors were having trouble with the Lakers’ size. They also experienced some periods of ball-watching. And their execution was poor. But there was a major, game-changing difference. After missing the shot that would have sent their game against the Knicks into overtime, Klay Thompson came out as a flamethrower in the final quarter in a 117-115 win over the Lakers. He scored 16 points in the fourth, the most he’s scored in a quarter […]

Brooklyn Nets trade James Harden to Philadelphia 76ers for Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond

The Brooklyn Nets and Philadelphia 76ers agreed to a blockbuster trade just hours before Thursday’s deadline, with James Harden and Paul Millsap going to Philadelphia and Ben Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond and two first-round draft picks going to Brooklyn, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Brooklyn will receive Philadelphia’s unprotected 2022 first-round pick, with the right to defer it to 2023, as well as a top-8-protected 2027 first-round pick, according to Wojnarowski. That pick would remain top-8 protected in 2028, and will turn into two second-round picks — and $2 million in cash — if it doesn’t convey in either season, sources said. The Nets also are waiving DeAndre’ Bembry to create roster room […]
