A field of 12 will go to post in the 18th running of the Grade 3 Virginia Derby on Tuesday at Colonial Downs, the featured event of five stakes on the card and eleven races in all. Safe Conduct’s triumph in Sunday’s 162nd running of The Queen’s Plate, the first leg of the OLG Canadian Triple Crown, highlighted a tremendous day of world-class racing at Woodbine Racetrack that produced the second-highest wagering handle in event history. A total of $16,122,170 was wagered on Sunday’s 13-race card, including $3,491,564 on The Queen’s Plate. With NYRA Ban Overturned, Baffert Plans To Enter Gamine At Saratoga

After a judge overturned the New York Racing Association’s ban of Bob Baffert on July 14, the trainer told the Daily Racing Form he plans to enter reigning champion sprint mare Gamine in the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga on Aug. 28. Domestic Spending, Mandaloun rise in top Thoroughbred poll

For the third consecutive week, St. George Stable’s 5-year-old mare Letruska has been voted No. 1 in the NTRA top Thoroughbred poll, while Klaravich Stables’ 4-year-old gelding Domestic Spending has risen to third place. Letruska, trained by Fausto Gutierrez, has Grade 1 triumphs in the Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn Park and in the Ogden Phipps at Belmont Park.
