Nationals to bring back infielder Asdrubal Cabrera

The Nationals have agreed to terms with infielder Asdrubal Cabrera on a one-year, $2.5 million deal, per multiple reports.  Cabrera, 34, won a ring with the Nationals last season. He was signed by the Rangers in January but then released on August 3. Three days later, the Nationals signed him as a free agent. In 38 games down the stretch, Cabrera slashed .323/.404/.565 with six homers and 40 RBI while walking more times than he struck out. He wasn’t quite as productive in the postseason, hitting .233/.250/.267.  Cabrera can handle second or third base adequately, in theory, but he’s lacking range at this point in his […]

Magic F Jonathan Isaac to miss at least 2 months with knee injury

The Orlando Magic announced on Thursday that forward Jonathan Isaac will miss at least two months with a knee injury suffered Wednesday versus the Washington Wizards. Isaac attempted to eurostep past Wizards guard Bradley Beal on a drive to the rim, but he landed on Beal’s foot before crumpling to the floor. Isaac was taken off the court on a stretcher and initially diagnosed with a hyperextended left knee before MRI results on Thursday showed that he suffered a severe sprain labeled a “posterior lateral corner injury” and a bone contusion. He did not suffer major ligament damage. The Magic said they plan on evaluating […]

John Dorsey out as Brown General Manager

John Dorsey, who stormed into town in 2017 to ‘awaken the sleeping giant’ that is the Cleveland Browns, is out at the end of two full seasons as GM after refusing to take a giant reduction in his role from owner Jimmy Haslam. Dorsey, who lost clout after his hire of Freddie Kitchens failed miserably, was asked to take a back seat to the new head of the football department, who will pair with the new head coach. Dorsey, who went 13-18-1 in his two full seasons as GM, would’ve been more of a talent evaluator, such as a Vice […]

Twins bolster rotation with veterans Rich Hill, Homer Bailey

The Minnesota Twins added two veteran arms to their starting rotation, signing free agents Rich Hill and Homer Bailey to one-year deals, the team announced Tuesday. Sources told ESPN’s Jeff Passan that Bailey’s deal is for $7 million, while Hill starts with a $3 million deal that could reach $12.5 million with incentives. Hill, who turns 40 on March 11, is not expected back until midseason after having what is called primary repair surgery, which has a six months recovery time. If he returns in time to make 15 starts or throw 75 innings, Hil’s salary will jump to $12.5 million, a source told […]

League sources told ESPN and MLB Media that Calhoun and the Diamondbacks are in agreement on a two-year, $16 million deal. The contract also includes a third-year club option for $9 million, with a $2 million buyout. “This is really kind of a dream come true, honestly,” Calhoun said Monday. “I’m born and raised here, grew up a Diamondback fan. Anybody who dreams of playing in the big leagues and you get there, your dreams come true. But as a kid growing up, I always dreamed of playing for the Diamondbacks […]

Orioles sign free agent pitches Kohl Stewart

The Orioles snuck in a major league free agent signing before the year closed, signing former Minnesota Twins first-round draft pick Kohl Stewart on Sunday to represent their first such acquisition of the offseason. Stewart, 25, was selected fourth overall in 2013 by Minnesota but struggled to live up to that promise with the Twins. He made his major league debut in 2018 and made 17 appearances (six starts) for Minnesota in the past two seasons, with a 4.79 ERA and a 1.435 WHIP without many strikeouts. While he came out of St. Pius X High School in Houston, Texas, […]

Edwin Encarnacion signs with White Sox

Encarnacion reportedly agreed on Wednesday to a free-agent contract with Chicago for one year and $12 million. MLB Network’s Jon Heyman first reported that the deal was close before others reported that the deal was completed. Over the last eight campaings, he’s led MLB in total homers and RBIs, hitting no less than 32 long balls in each year during that span and reaching the 100-RBI mark six times.  The White Sox will be his fifth club in the last four years. Rams rule CB Jalen Ramsey out for finale

Los Angeles Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey will miss Sunday’s season finale versus the Arizona Cardinals due to a knee injury. Rams coach Sean McVay confirmed Tuesday that Ramsey has a Grade 2 LCL strain. The Rams were eliminated from the playoff picture in Saturday’s 34-31 loss at San Francisco. Versus the 49ers, Ramsey recorded his first interception since being acquired by Los Angeles in an Oct. 16 trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Daniel Jacobs wins as Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. quits after 5th

The bizarre spiral of former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.’s career continued last Saturday in Phoenix, Arizona. The culmination of what was a whirlwind promotion in which Chavez skipped out on a drug test (forcing the fight to switch states) and miss weight by nearly five pounds ended when Chavez quit on his stool after Round 5 versus Daniel Jacobs and ran out of the ring while being pelted by garbage.  The exact reason for Chavez quitting was never properly resolved as he ditched out on the post-fight interview amid a showering of boos from the Talking Stick Resort […]
