Looney to return to Warriors on 3 year deal

On multiple occasions last season, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr went out of his way to publicly lobby for the front office to bring back center Kevon Looney. Kerr got his wish Monday afternoon when Looney agreed to a three-year, $15 million deal with Golden State, league sources confirmed with The Chronicle. Outside of Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson, Looney was the Warriors’ top free-agent priority. In the wake of Sunday’s sign-and-trade that sent Durant to Brooklyn and netted Golden State combo guard D’Angelo Russell, the Warriors faced heavy financial constraints, which raised concerns within the organization that they couldn’t […]

Yankees’ Stanton back to IL with knee injury

The Yankees slugger will go back on the injured list with a strained posterior cruciate ligament, manager Aaron Boone told reporters after Wednesday’s game. The injury means Stanton will not travel with the team to London for its historic series against the Red Sox this weekend. Boone added that Stanton will be reevaluated in 10 days, indicating he’ll be spending longer than the minimum time on the IL. Stanton was pulled from Tuesday’s 4-3 win over the Blue Jays before the fourth inning with what the team announced as a right knee contusion. He later underwent an MRI exam for further evaluation of the knee. Boone […]

Rockies’ Gonzalez to face Giants after 3-year absence

Colorado Rockies right-hander Chi Chi Gonzalez is scheduled to make his return from almost a three-year major league absence when he takes on Madison Bumgarner and the host San Francisco Giants in the second game of a three-game series Tuesday night. The Rockies got shutout pitching from righty Jon Gray and three relievers to win the series opener 2-0 on Monday night, spoiling a five-inning, 11-strikeout effort by Giants left-hander Drew Pomeranz. Gonzalez, 27, blew out the ulnar collateral ligament in his pitching arm in spring training with the Rangers in 2017 after he went 4-8 with a 4.54 ERA for Texas over the previous two seasons. […]

Dodgers’ Hill hopes to return this year

An MRI exam Thursday on Dodgers lefthander Rich Hill’s arm revealed a strained flexor tendon near his elbow, an injury that he said will prevent him from throwing for nearly a month and likely will keep him on the injured list at least into August. Hill underwent the MRI the day after leaving his start Wednesday night against the Giants after only one inning, an early departure that the Dodgers initially attributed to “left forearm tightness” then later clarified to “discomfort,” not “tightness.” The Dodgers placed Hill on the 10-day injured list Thursday and recalled right-handed pitchers JT Chargois and […]

Bucks trading Snell to Pistons for Leuer

The Detroit Pistons have acquired Tony Snell and the 30th overall pick in the 2019 NBA draft in a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for forward Jon Leuer, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Wednesday night. As Wojnarowski and ESPN colleague Zach Lowe noted, Detroit was willing to absorb salary to gain an extra first-round pick in Thursday’s draft Snell has been a reliable part of the Bucks rotation for the past three years, averaging 7.2 points per game while shooting 40.3 percent from deep. Rays’ Diaz on 10-day IL with Hamstring injury

The Rays have placed third baseman Yandy Diaz on the 10-day injured list, Juan Toribio of MLB.com tweets. Infielder Daniel Robertson will come up to take the roster opening. Diaz has been dealing with hamstring tightness that hasn’t resolved quite as rapidly as had been hoped. The club obviously felt it could no longer afford to carry an unavailable player. There’s little reason at present to think that Diaz will be sidelined for more than the minimum, though it’ll all depend upon how the muscle heals up. The Rays will hope for a swift return for the 27-year-old, who has been everything they hoped for […]
