Frazier sent to minors by Yankees

It was inevitable that someone would lose out on a lot of at-bats when the New York Yankees acquired the AL home run leader, Edwin Encarnación, on Saturday. Unfortunately, the big loser appears to be Clint Frazier. Despite placing fourth on the team with 11 home runs and slashing .285/.333/.522, Frazier was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, the team announced Sunday. The move certainly caught Frazier by surprise. “This is the reality of things,” Frazier said to reporters. “Guess I’m facing reality right now. It’s a tough pill to swallow. It’s never fun, especially with how much I’ve felt like I’ve contributed to […]

Phillies acquire infielder Miller from Yankees

The Phillies acquired infielder Brad miller from the Yankees on Thursday in exchange for cash considerations, MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki reports. Miller will join the Phillies for the start of their series against the Braves in Atlanta on Friday. Miller, 29, is now with his fourth organization this year. He signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers in late February. He opted out near the end of spring training, then signed a one-year deal with the Indians days later. Though he hit well with the Indians, he was designated for assignment in mid-April, which shortly thereafter allowed the Yankees to ink him to a minor league deal. […]

Kyrie splits with agent

Irving parted ways with longtime agent Jeff Wechsler on Wednesday, clearing the way for him to ultimately work with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation prior to the start of NBA free agency on June 30, sources said. Irving, a six-time All-Star, will become an unrestricted free agent, and league sources say he remains intensely interested in the Brooklyn Nets. The New York Knicks are expected to remain competitive for Irving, too, sources told ESPN. The Nets and Knicks have both hoped to sign Irving and Kevin Durant together into max salary slots. Durant’s free agency has been complicated by a ruptured right Achilles tendon that is expected to keep […]

Luck to miss Colts minicamp with strained calf

The Indianapolis Colts will gladly play it safe with Andrew Luck. They’d rather he be healthy for training camp anyway. Just minutes after coach Frank Reich announced Tuesday that his starting quarterback would sit out this week’s three-day minicamp — the final portion of Indy’s offseason workouts — Luck promised he would return to practice when the Colts report to camp in late July. “It’s OK, it’s not good enough to practice this week, which I’m bummed about,” Luck said, describing the injury. “But I think we’re on a very, very good page and I’ll be ready for training camp.” […]

After months of uncertainty over the status of his contract for the upcoming season, Kyle Rudolph gained clarity on Monday night. Texans fire GM Brian Gaine after one season

In a late-Friday-in-June news dump, Brian Gaine was fired as the Texans’ general manager because, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, he simply wasn’t good enough. It took Houston until this point in the offseason to make this determination, insisting that no one moment led to this change. Just like the Jets’ firing of Mike Maccagnan after the draft and a free agency spending spree, it’s all about the person who can walk into the owner’s office and say ‘I alone can fix this.’ It’s how most of our businesses and day jobs work—and it’s how your favorite NFL team works. If the […]

Durant ruled out for game 4

Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant has been ruled out for Game 4 of the NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. Warriors coach Steve Kerr announced the news at a Thursday press conference. Durant has not played since May 8 when he injured his calf in Game 5 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Houston Rockets. While the Warriors didn’t practice as a team today, Kerr was eager to see how Durant would handled playing basketball in simulated 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 scenarios. Those scrimmages apparently did not happen as trainers deemed him unprepared. The Warriors, playing without Durant and Klay Thompson, […]

Brewers’ Nelson returns from 21-month absence to face Marlins

Jimmy Nelson serves as another example for those who advocate for a universal designated hitter rule. The Milwaukee Brewers right-hander injured his pitching shoulder while running the bases during a game against the Chicago Cubs on Sept. 8, 2017. Nelson slid into a base at Wrigley Field and sustained an injury to his labrum. The severity required Nelson to undergo surgery, miss the 2018 season and the first two months of 2019. For Nelson, the long gap between major league appearances ends Wednesday night on his 30th birthday. He starts the middle game of the Brewers’ three-game home series against the Miami Marlins. “Pitching on […]

Phillies’ McCutchen sprains knee, to have MRI

Philadelphia Phillies center fielder Andrew McCutchen sprained his left knee in a loss to the San Diego Padres and will have an MRI exam on Tuesday. McCutchen was hurt during a rundown in the first inning and came out of the game. “I didn’t feel it pop or anything,” he said. “Something felt uncomfortable, something that made me grab my knee and go down. I’ve had an ACL injury before and I know what that feels like. This didn’t feel like that.” “I have no clue,” he said when asked if he believed he would require a trip to the […]

Warriors even NBA Finals, defeat Raptor

The Golden State Warriors relied on a champion’s heart to overcome their weary bodies. Klay Thompson scored 25 points before leaving with a hamstring injury, Stephen Curry had 23 and the Warriors ran off the first 18 points of the second half on the way to a 109-104 victory over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday night that tied the NBA Finals at one game apiece. With Kevin Durant already out and Thompson eventually joining him in the fourth quarter, the Warriors don’t feel great — but they would’ve felt a whole lot worse flying home in a 2-0 hole. “I […]
