But as right now, that’s the date we kind of solidified. We’re not going to rush. Carlos Beltran, back with Mets, thought ‘no chance’ he’d reunite with team

Carlos Beltran is back with the New York Mets — the same club that fired him just three years ago in the wake of his involvement in the Houston Astros’ cheating scandal. Beltran, set to initiate his new role as a special assistant to Mets general manager Billy Eppler, was asked Wednesday if he ever thought he would work for the franchise again. “No chance,” Beltran responded. “That’s how the world goes around.” Beltran, a nine-time All-Star who spent parts of seven seasons as a standout center fielder for the Mets, spent last season as an analyst for the YES Network but said […]

Jon Berti, Marlins avoid arbitration with $2.125M deal

Jon Berti reached an agreement Monday with the Miami Marlins for $2,125,000 that avoided an arbitration hearing. Berti, an infielder and outfielder, gets a $2.1 million salary this year under an agreement reached before the scheduled start of Monday’s hearing. The deal involves a $3.5 million team option for 2024 with a $25,000 buyout, and the option price could escalate by $625,000 based on plate appearances this year: $125,000 each for 400, 450, 500, 525 and 550. Berti hit .240 with four homers, 28 RBIs and a major-league-leading 41 stolen bases last season. He played second base, shortstop, third, left field and center. […]
