New York Yankees release outfielder Clint Frazier, infielder Rougned Odor

Outfielder Clint Frazier and infielder Rougned Odor were released by the New York Yankees on Tuesday after they were designated for assignment four days ago and went unclaimed on waivers. The 27-year-old Frazier was the fifth pick overall in the 2013 amateur draft by Cleveland and was a prized prospect when he was obtained by the Yankees in a July 2016 trade that sent reliever Andrew Miller to the Indians. Frazier made his major league debut in July 2017, but the outfielder never has had more than 246 plate appearances in a campaign. His 2018 season was wrecked when he collided with an outfield […]

New York Yankees designate Clint Frazier, Rougned Odor, Tyler Wade for assignment

Clint Frazier’s tenure with the Yankees might have ended after five unfulfilling campaigns when New York designated him for assignment Friday to open a roster spot for a prospect ahead of the winter meeting draft. Frazier can be claimed by another major league team off waivers. If he is not, he could be assigned outright to the minors, but he would have the right to reject the assignment and become a free agent because he has at least three years of major league service. Infielders Rougned Odor and Tyler Wade also were designated for assignment. Now 27, Frazier was the fifth pick overall in the 2013 […]

Los Angeles Dodgers’ Andrew Heaney confident he’ll bounce back after rough ’21

Andrew Heaney is eager to bounce back from a rough season. The Los Angeles Dodgers consider he can too, with some adjustments. The free agent left-hander signed an $8.5 million, one-year deal last week that brings him back to Southern California, where he pitched for the Angels from 2015 until getting shipped to the New York Yankees at the July trade deadline. He was a combined 8-9 with a 5.83 ERA last season. He fared worse in New York, where he was 2-2 with a 7.32 ERA in 12 games, including five starts, after the swap. “I didn’t turn it around, and that’s something I […]

Free agent Justin Verlander ‘looks like himself’ after Tommy John surgery, says Houston Astros GM

Free-agent ace Justin Verlander looked healthy and sharp at a showcase for scouts Monday, according to his former general manager with the Houston Astros. James Click stated at Tuesday’s general manager meetings that Verlander “looks like himself” 13 months after having Tommy John surgery. “We’ve kept a close eye on him,” Click said. “He’s been great about letting us know when he’s going to be throwing so we can get in there and get an eye on him, see how he’s doing. The videos I’ve seen have been awesome.” Looking for the best online betting site and Live betting? Visit Heritage […]

Nick Castellanos exercises opt-out clause in deal with Cincinnati Reds to become free agent

Cincinnati Reds star outfielder Nick Castellanos has exercised the opt-out clause in his contract and will become a free agent this offseason, the team revealed. Castellanos informed the Reds of his decision Thursday, opting out of the final two years and $34 million on his deal. Castellanos had two opt-out clauses in his four-year, $64 million deal, but he did not exercise the first one after the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. The Reds are expected to extend him the $18.4 million qualifying offer, which would yield Cincinnati a compensatory 2022 draft pick after the first round if Castellanos signs with another team. Castellanos’ decision […]

Houston Astros to start Luis Garcia on short rest in Game 6 of World Series

The Astros are turning to rookie Luis Garcia, pitching on short rest, to stave off elimination from the Atlanta Braves in Game 6 of the World Series on Tuesday. Manager Dusty Baker stated it’s Garcia’s turn to throw, and that he can always count on a rested bullpen if things go poorly for the 24-year-old. “We think that he’s the best for the job,” Baker said Monday afternoon. “We realize that he has a short leash, but then everybody out there has a short leash and operating on low rest or not full rest.” Baker reeled off all his relievers who are available on Tuesday, […]

Padres hire Ruben Niebla as pitching coach before landing manager

San Diego Padres general manager A.J. Preller has hired a pitching coach before landing a manager. Preller hired Ruben Niebla away from Cleveland on Wednesday, saying a number of factors made the Guardians’ assistant pitching coach and Southern California native too good to pass up even as San Diego’s managerial search stretched to three weeks. Niebla, 49, has been Cleveland’s assistant pitching coach for the last two campaigns. Before that, he spent seven seasons as the Guardians’ minor league pitching coordinator. Overall, he spent 21 seasons in Cleveland’s organization. He is widely credited with helping develop starters such as Shane Bieber, former […]

Caesars Sportsbook opened with the Astros as -150 favorites over the Braves after Atlanta finished off the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night in the National League Championship Series to get its spot in the World Series. The price has since ticked down to Houston -145, with the Braves listed at +125. Game 1 of the World Series is Tuesday night in Houston. The Astros are in the World Series for the third time in five seasons and have some sportsbooks facing a significant liability. In late June, Houston furniture store […]

Houston Astros starter Luis Garcia leaves Game 2 of ALCS in second inning with right knee discomfort

The Astros are still evaluating right-handed starter Luis Garcia after he left Game 2 of the American League Championship Series versus the Red Sox with right knee discomfort. Astros manager Dusty Baker admitted the injury probably affected Garcia’s performance after he permitted a first-inning grand slam to J.D. Martinez then walked the leadoff man in the second, on four pitches, before leaving. “I think it was his push-off leg,” Baker said after the Red Sox posted a 9-5 win to even the series 1-1. “He had a strain in his knee, and he is being evaluated by our doctors.” Baker couldn’t say if Garcia would be substituted on the ALCS […]
