Stephen Vogt agrees to 1 year deal with Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks signed veteran catcher Stephen Vogt to a one-year deal with an option for a second season, a deal that gives them an offensive-minded, left-handed-hitting complement to frontline catcher Carson Kelly. Vogt, 35, is coming off a strong season with the San Francisco Giants, for whom he hit .263/.314/.490 with 10 homers while serving as Buster Posey’s backup. It was an impressive bounceback year for a player who feared his career was in jeopardy when he underwent shoulder surgery in 2018, missing that season entirely. Vogt’s deal guarantees him $3 million. It calls for a $2.5 million salary for […]

Nestor Cortes jr traded from Yankees to Mariners from signing bonus allocation

The New York Yankees announced Monday pitcher Nestor Cortes Jr. was traded to the Seattle Mariners in exchange for international signing bonus pool money.  The left-hander ended 2019 with 5.67 ERA and 1.545 WHIP in 33 appearances last season, including one start. He also struck out 69 batters in 66.2 innings during his lone season in New York. The 24-year-old came up through the Yankees system but was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2017 Rule 5 draft. He made four appearances in 2018, posting a 7.71 ERA, before being offered back to the Yankees a month into the season. Though Cortes has struggled at […]

Larry Rothschild won’t return as pitching coach for Yankees

The New York Yankees have fired pitching coach Larry Rothschild, the team stated Monday. Rothschild has had the job since 2011, when he took over Dave Eiland, who was fired. “I want to personally thank Larry for his near-decade of commitment to this organization,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. “Larry cares deeply about his craft and the pitchers under his tutelage, and he played a significant role in our successes over the past nine seasons. “There’s a reason why Larry has had the type of distinguished baseball career he’s had, and it starts with experience and dedication that is difficult to […]

Nationals defeat Astros again to take a 2-0 lead of World Series

The tension mounted in Minute Maid Park with each pitch to the pinch-hitting rookie with two aboard in the sixth inning of a tied Game 2 on Wednesday night.  Kyle Tucker fought off Stephen Strasburg’s most onerous offerings and slowly worked the count full, with the Astros faithful waving their orange towels in anticipation of a magic moment. Then the kid watched a high curveball dive into the upper reaches of the strike zone for the inning-ending strike three. Instants later, a leadoff rocket off the bat of Kurt Suzuki just one pitch into the seventh sparked the ruthless six-run frame that included a rare intentional walk and […]

Cubs hiring David Ross as Manager

The Chicago Cubs are apparently set to hire former catcher David Ross as their new manager, replacing Joe Maddon.  The Cubs recently had a second interview with Ross. Ross, long contemplated to be the favorite for the Cubs’ managerial job, interviewed early in the process, but met with the team a second time for “expanded” conversations, according to Crull’s report. Ross, currently an analyst for ESPN and a special adviser with the Cubs, has been considered as the betting favorite for the position ever since Joe Maddon was allowed to leave the club after the 2019 season. Ross retired in […]

Astros look to push Yankees to the brink

After a unanticipated time without work, the American League Championship Collection resumes in New York with the Houston Astros seeking to take a commanding 3-1 lead and the Yankees hoping to even the collection and cut back it to a best-of-three. There was no media entry at Yankee Stadium after Recreation Four of the ALCS was rescheduled resulting from a storm that was anticipated to drop shut to 2 inches of rain throughout the realm. The washout permitted the Yankees and Astros to ship their Recreation 1 starters — Tanaka and Greinke — again to mound. Mild rain is likely […]

Nationals defeat Cardinals to reach first World series

The Washington Nationals made history Tuesday night, proceeding to their first World Series in franchise history. The Nationals jumped on the Cardinals early, scoring seven runs in the first inning, and won 7-4 to complete the NLCS sweep. The Nationals are 8-2 in the postseason and have won six straight overall. “It’s one of these situations where teams just kind of get hot,” TBS and MLB Network Host Casey Stern alleged on After Hours with Amy Lawrence. “I thought the Nationals would win the division before the year began. It clearly didn’t (start) that way through 50 games, but I […]

Philadelphia Phillies fire manager Gabe Kapler

The Philadelphia Phillies stated on Thursday that they have fired manager Gabe Kapler. The announcement brings to an end a lengthy 11-day evaluation from Phillies owner John Middleton, who took control of the decision-making process from GM Matt Klentak. Middleton reportedly flew to his players’ offseason homes to interview them about Kapler. Kapler, 44, was hired by Klentak after the 2017 season to substitute Pete Mackanin. His dedication to analytics and his unorthodox administration style, both on and off the field, was supposed to herald a bright new era for the Phillies, who were just emerging from a five-year rebuild. Instead, Kapler was […]

Aaron Hicks feels ready to return to NY Yankees’ roster after elbow injury

Fresh off a three-game sweep of the Twins in the ALDS, the Yankees could be getting even more help for the ALCS. Center fielder Aaron Hicks told the Associated Press on Tuesday that he is “definitely ready to go out there and play.” Hicks hasn’t suited up for the Yankees since Aug. 3 due to a right elbow flexor strain. He also suffered a setback during his recovery, making it unclear if he would play again in 2019. But while the Yankees have pushed to make their way into the ALCS, Hicks was working hard behind the scenes in Tampa, and now believes […]

Ryan Zimmerman gives Washington life with big home run

Ryan Zimmerman has spent his whole professional career with the Washington Nationals. He’s the franchise’s leader in hits, home runs and runs batted in. However, he may not have ever delivered a bigger hit. In Monday’s game four of the best-of-five National League Division Series, with his team clinging to a 2-1 lead vs. the two-time defending National League champion Dodgers, Zimmerman clubbed a towering three-run home run to give Washington a 5-1 lead. Nationals ace Max Scherzer scattered four hits and one run over seven innings to earn the victory. Virginia Beach’s Daniel Hudson, a former Old Dominion University […]
