Canelo fighting Munguia

The latest winner of the Canelo Alvarez sweepstakes is Jaime Munguia, who beat out Jermall Charlo and Edgar Berlanga to land a May 4 fight in Las Vegas versus boxing’s top star. With that fight comes a chance at boxing championship glory, and of course, the biggest payday of Munguia’s career. Munguia (43-0, 34 KOs) enters the undisputed super middleweight championship fight on the heels of a career-best performance, a ninth-round TKO victory over John Ryder in January. Canelo Alvarez in talks with PBC about Munguia fight

Canelo Alvarez and Premier Boxing Champions are discussing a reunion, sources told ESPN, after the sides split last week with two fights lefft on a three-fight deal signed in June. Alvarez, boxing’s top star, is in talks with PBC about a May 4 pay-per-view fight vs. fellow Mexican fighter Jaime Munguia in Las Vegas, sources said. Canelo indicated Monday he was going to make an announcement imminently regarding his boxing career. Fans were left to guess what might be coming, but an event around Cinco de Mayo was the obvious assumption since fighting that […]

England’s John Ryder retires after back-to-back losses

England’s John Ryder announced his retirement from boxing Tuesday at age 35 following back-to-back losses. Ryder (32-7, 18 KOs), rated No. 9 by ESPN at super middleweight, made his announcement 10 days after he was dropped four times en route to a ninth-round TKO loss to Mexico’s Jaime Munguia. That loss followed a wide-points defeat in May 2023 to Canelo Alvarez, boxing’s top star. “Although I didn’t manage to win that world title, I’ve achieved and experienced more than I could ever have imagined when I first put on a pair of boxing gloves,” said Ryder. “I wouldn’t change that for […]
