Mike Clevinger pitches a 6-hitter as the White Sox beat the Nationals 6-1

Mike Clevinger pitched a six-hitter for his third career complete game, and the Chicago White Sox defeated the Washington Nationals 6-1 on Monday night. Luis Robert Jr. hit a three-run homer for Chicago, which improved to 5-12 in September. Tim Anderson had four of the team’s 15 hits. Clevinger was working on a shutout before Dominic Smith hit his 10th homer with two out in the ninth inning. Smith walked slowly to first while watching the shot to right-center, and then flipped his bat. Clevinger (8-8) apparently took exception and exchanged words with Smith, prompting benches to clear in an incident that didn’t escalate beyond shouting. Clevinger then struck […]

Yankees place OF Jasson Dominguez on IL with torn UCL

As expected, the New York Yankees placed top prospect Jasson Dominguez on the 10-day injured list Monday. Dominguez, 20, has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and is expected to have Tommy John surgery. Dominguez was scratched from Sunday’s game versus Milwaukee with inflammation in the elbow. Reconstructive surgery would sideline the switch-hitting center fielder for a minimum of six months. “The plan is to go through surgery as soon as possible and try to recuperate as soon as possible,” Dominguez said Sunday, per CBS News in New York. Knicks sue former employee, Raptors, cite disclosure of ‘proprietary information’

The New York Knicks on Monday sued the Toronto Raptors, members of the Raptors organization and a former Knicks employee whom they alleged “illegally procured and then disclosed proprietary information” to their Atlantic Division rival. According to a copy of the lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court in Manhattan and was obtained by ESPN, the Knicks state that Ikechukwu Azotam, who worked for the Knicks from 2020 to 2023, sent the Raptors thousands of confidential files — including play frequency reports, a prep book for the 2022-23 season, video scouting files, opposition research and more — after the team started […]

Andy Murray pulled out of the Cincinnati Open late Monday with an abdominal strain. The 36-year-old keeps recovering from the injury as he prepares to compete in the US Open that starts later this month in New York. Cincinnati is among some of the tournaments that players view as tune-ups for the Open. Murray withdrew from last week’s Canadian Open before his round-of-16 clash with eventual champion Jannik Sinner due to the strain. He first felt the injury after spending nearly five hours on court in triumphs over Lorenzo Sonego and Max Purcell. Looking for the best online betting site and Live betting? Visit Heritage Sports! Carlos Alcaraz, Iga Swiatek get No. 1 seeds for Wimbledon

Carlos Alcaraz — not four-time defending champion Novak Djokovic — and Iga Swiatek were seeded No. 1 for Wimbledon on Wednesday, as expected, because the All England Club adhered to the ATP and WTA rankings. Alcaraz overtook Djokovic atop the men’s standings on Monday. Djokovic has not played since collecting his men’s record 23rd Grand Slam title at the French Open on June 11 and slid to No. 2, while Alcaraz rose one spot after winning a grass-court tuneup tournament at Queen’s Club on Sunday. Djokovic has collected the championship at Wimbledon each of the past four times it was held — and seven times overall — but he did […]

Back from non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, Hendriks pitches for White Sox

Chicago White Sox reliever Liam Hendriks permitted two runs on three hits and a walk to the Los Angeles Angels on Monday, his first outing since recovering from non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Hendriks, 34, got several standing ovations, both before he took the mound and when he entered the match in the top of the eighth inning. He pitched one inning. “It was definitely emotional,” Hendriks stated after the 6-4 loss. “It was humbling going out there and seeing the amount of people wearing my shirts, the amount of people having signs or flags or anything like that — the amount of people that were chanting when […]

Carlos Alcaraz No. 1 in rankings; Novak Djokovic falls to No. 3

Carlos Alcaraz replaced Novak Djokovic at No. 1 in the ATP rankings Monday, earning the top seeding at the French Open, and Daniil Medvedev’s Italian Open title moved him up to No. 2 ahead of the year’s second Grand Slam tournament. Djokovic’s loss in the fourth round as the defending champion in Rome dropped him to No. 3. That means he and Alcaraz could end up in the same half of the Roland Garros bracket and be set up for a potential semifinal showdown, depending on what happens in Thursday’s draw in Paris. The French Open, which starts Sunday, will mark the first chance […]
