Seattle Mariners LHP James Paxton to have season-ending elbow surgery

James Paxton’s first season back with the Seattle Mariners has come to an unexpected end, as the left-hander will undergo season-ending surgery, manager Scott Servais stated last Tuesday. Servais said Paxton will have surgery on his left elbow, but did not say Tommy John. Paxton, 32, went on the 10-day injured list Wednesday with a forearm strain in his pitching arm after leaving his first start of the season in the second inning after 24 pitches. Paxton was 41-26 with a 3.42 ERA for the Mariners from 2013 to 2018, striking out 617 and walking 168 in 582⅓ innings. He was traded […]

New York Yankees’ Gio Urshela likely out 3 months after elbow surgery

New York Yankees third baseman Gio Urshela had surgery Friday to remove a bone chip from his right elbow, and the team stated his expected recovery time is three months. Urshela is likely to miss about half of spring training, which starts in mid-February, and will have just a few weeks to get into shape ahead of the opener versus Toronto on April 1. Yankees head team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad operated at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital. Urshela was bothered by his throwing arm for much of the pandemic-shortened campaign. He was placed on the 10-day injured list with a bone spur in his right […]

Stephen Strasburg to have season-ending surgery

Stephen Strasburg’s season is over. The Washington Nationals transferred the star right-hander to the 60-day disabled list Saturday. Nationals manager Dave Martinez said Strasburg will undergo carpal tunnel surgery on Wednesday. Strasburg, last year’s World Series MVP, was first placed on the injured list Aug. 15 with carpal tunnel neuritis of the right hand. “Hopefully, surgery goes well,” Martinez stated. “The biggest thing is that surgery relieves anything he has, and he’s able to rehab and come back strong next spring training. Long-term goal, that’s what we’re hoping for.” Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo called it “a repetition injury” and he expects […]

Jets WR Quincy Enunwa not giving up on playing again despite career-threatening neck injury

New York Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, fighting a career-threatening neck injury that will keep him off the field in 2020, still hopes to play again one day. But that decision, he said, no longer is in his control. In an interview with ESPN, Enunwa stated Wednesday it was “devastating” to learn recently he had been ruled out for the season. Now, he said, the only thing he can do is play the waiting game. “If I’m capable of playing, then that’s what I’ll do,” he said, making his first public comments since the end of the campaign. “If it comes down […]

Jazz’s Bojan Bogdanovic to undergo season-ending wrist surgery

At this point, we still don’t know if the 2019-20 NBA season will be restarted. But if it is, the Utah Jazz will be without one of their key contributors, as forward Bojan Bogdanovic is set to have season-ending surgery on his right wrist, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The surgery will repair the scapholunate ligament in his right wrist. Bogdanovic initially injured the wrist in January, but he continued to play through the pain. Now, with the future of the season undefined, Bogdanovic has decided to make the move for surgery. The good news for the Jazz, who signed Bogdanovic to a four-year deal […]

No surgery date has been announced. “Needless to say, this is a tough thing for Chris and a tough thing for all of us here with the Red Sox,” chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom told reporters, including the Boston Globe’s Alex Speier. Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun undergoes surgery to repair broken jaw

Texas Rangers outfielder Willie Calhoun had surgery to repair his broken jaw Monday, a day after being hit in the face by a fastball. Surgeons were prepared to wire Calhoun’s jaw shut but instead installed a plate to steady the fracture, which should make for a faster recovery.  Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Calhoun would be released from the hospital this week, possibly Tuesday, and will be re-evaluated in two weeks, at which time Texas may get a better idea of his timetable for a return. Daniels said doctors had not yet determined if Calhoun had a concussion. While […]

Mavericks´ Dwight Powell has surgery for season ending aquilles injury

Dallas Mavericks center Dwight Powell underwent surgery to repair a torn right Achilles tendon, an injury that ended his season. The team said Monday the surgery was performed by Dr. Bob Anderson in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The 28-year-old Powell could be ready for training camp in early October, although the timetable could be more in line with the start of the regular season. Powell will be off the court for a significant amount of time. He was already ruled out for the rest of this campaign. Powell will also miss all of his summer work. The best-case scenario is he is cleared for […]
