Royals C Perez to have Tommy John Surgery

Royals star catcher Salvador Perez will not be behind home plate this year, as he is planning to undergo Tommy John surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, the club has announced. This news comes four days after Kansas City announced that Perez had suffered his elbow injury during a workout last Wednesday and an MRI revealed damage in the elbow. This led to Perez getting a second opinion by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. With the injury being confirmed, Perez is expected to miss the entire season and will be back in 2020. This is a tough blow to a young Royals team because they […]

Kershaw might not be ready for Opening Day

The Los Angeles Dodgers could be without Clayton Kershaw for the start of the season as the staff ace begins to rebuild from shoulder soreness that caused him to shut down his spring training. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said “that’s fair” when asked Monday whether his opening-day starter would be unavailable in just over three weeks. The Dodgers open against Arizona on March 28. “There’s just way too much importance put on the opening-day roster. The No. 1 thing is for him to be ready and to feel confident physically and mentally,” Roberts said, “and when that is, it is.” […]

Yankees closer Chapman says knee issues are gone

New York Yankees closer Aroldis Chapman says he has recovered from the left knee tendinitis that bothered him during much of last season. Chapman threw 21 pitches during a four-batter simulated game appearance on Thursday, his 31st birthday. The left-hander struck out three, including Giancarlo Stanton, and induced Gary Sanchez to hit a broken-bat grounder. Chapman started feeling pain in the knee last May and went on the disabled list from Aug. 22 to Sept. 19. “I’m healthy and feel really good,” Chapman said through a translator. “I felt normal out there. Everything went well.” He was 3-0 with 32 […]

Lakers beat Pelicans 111-105

LeBron James scored 33 points, Brandon Ingram added 23 and the Los Angeles Lakers weathered strong performances by Anthony Davis and Julius Randle for a 125-119 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night. Davis had 22 points and eight rebounds in the first three quarters after getting a warm pregame reception from Lakers fans who eagerly followed Los Angeles’ fruitless pursuit of a trade for the superstar forward earlier this season. Randle scored 35 points against his former team, but couldn’t finish a comeback against James and the Lakers’ new core during New Orleans’ fifth loss in seven […]

Ravens release Michael Crabtree after one season

The Baltimore Ravens released Michael Crabtree on Monday after the veteran receiver saw his role diminish significantly when the team turned to Lamar Jackson as its starting quarterback. Crabtree caught 54 passes for 607 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games this year with the Ravens, his first season in Baltimore. But in the season’s final seven games – all of which Jackson started – the Ravens transformed their offense to become a run-first, ball-possession outfit. Over that span, Crabtree caught just 13 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown. Crabtree, 31, just completed his 10th season in the NFL, with previous stops at […]

Clayton Kershaw took step back from Throwing due to shoulder inflammation

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said that ace left-hander Clayton Kershaw took a step back from throwing because of inflammation in his throwing shoulder but does not need an MRI and is taking anti-inflammatory medication to treat his ailment. The team had not previously given a specific reason why Kershaw was taking a step back from his normal throwing progression. Roberts told reporters on Sunday evening that Kershaw will play catch on Monday. He didn’t specify how much he will throw or at what distance he will throw from. “It’s just the shoulder, probably inflammation getting ramped up,” Roberts told reporters, according […]

Patriots safety Devin McCourty says he’ll return for 10th season

Devin McCourty surprised many people on Super Bowl Opening Night when he didn’t dismiss the possibility of retiring after Super Bowl LIII, but the New England Patriots safety has no plans to step away from the NFL just yet.  McCourty, who turns 32 in August, backtracked his previous comments when he told NFL Network’s Deion Sanders in January, “I don’t know what else I could do that could top” a Super Bowl win, clarifying that he doesn’t play just to win championships. “It was media night when Deion said that to me, and it’s like, ‘Yeah man, if we win a Super Bowl, I don’t know what […]

Gordon Hayward sprains ankle in workout

The Boston Celtics forward twisted his right ankle during a workout in Boston on Tuesday and likely will be questionable for Thursday’s game against the Milwaukee Bucks, head coach Brad Stevens revealed Wednesday during an interview on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Zolak & Bertrand.” “He actually stayed back in Boston (during the All-Star break) and worked out a bunch of days in a row, and unfortunately yesterday twisted his ankle in one of those workouts,” Stevens said. “So, we’re going to get that reevaluated this morning.” According to Stevens, Hayward suffered the injury playing 1-on-1 with Semi Ojeyele at the […]
