Phillies slugger Bryce Harper hits 3 homers for first hits of season

Bryce Harper’s first hit of the season was a big one. Same for his second. And his third. Harper homered in all three of his at-bats for Philadelphia during Tuesday night’s 9-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The two-time NL MVP went 0 for 11 while playing in three of the Phillies’ first four games. The 31-year-old Harper drove a 1-2 cut fastball from Graham Ashcraft deep to center in the first inning. The 420-foot solo shot had an exit velocity of 107.7 mph. He came up again in the fourth and hit another solo shot to right. The 367-foot homer on the […]

Houston Astros’ Ronel Blanco no-hits Toronto Blue Jays

Ronel Blanco, making his first start of the season, baffled the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night, pitching a no-hitter in the Houston Astros’ 10-0 victory. Blanco, coming off a modest 2-1 season in which he concluded with a 4.50 ERA, ignited an Astros club that was coming off a four-game sweep at the hands of the New York Yankees, giving Houston its first victory of the season and Major League Baseball its first no-hitter of the year. He threw 105 pitches, posting seven strikeouts along the way, with just two walks. When Vladimir Guerrero Jr. grounded out to end it, Blanco smiled broadly before raising his […]

‘Pitbull’ Cruz stops ‘Rolly’ Romero; Lara and Martinez shine in wins

Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz set the tone early Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena, with wild overhand rights that whistled by the head of Rolando “Rolly” Romero. Then Cruz put on a masterclass in stalking and cutting off the ring versus Romero. Finally, Cruz completed his beatdown of Romero with at least six straight shots to the head, forcing referee Tom Taylor to stop the fight at 56 seconds of the eighth round. With the victory, Cruz took Romero’s WBA junior welterweight world title on the co-main event of a card headlined by a junior middleweight title fight between Tim Tszyu and […]

Fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev, who defeated unseeded Fabian Marozsan 6-3, 7-5, will play Dimitrov in the semifinals Friday. Juan Francisco Estrada-Jesse Rodriguez close for June 29

Juan Francisco Estrada and Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez are concluding a June 29 fight in Glendale, Arizona, for Estrada’s WBC junior bantamweight title, sources told ESPN. Rodriguez, a unified champion at 112 pounds, is returning to 115 for a shot at the future Hall of Famer. OG Anunoby lifts Knicks to blowout win over 76ers in return

What a difference a player makes – and, specifically, OG Anunoby for the New York Knicks. After scoring the fewest points in an NBA match in over three years without him Sunday in a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers here at Madison Square Garden, Anunoby returned from a several-week absence with an elbow injury to help deliver a 106-79 victory over their rivals down Interstate 95. Anunoby concluded with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists and was a plus-28 in 29 minutes. “Everything felt good,” Anunoby said in first game in several weeks after undergoing surgery to remove loose bodies from his right (shooting) […]

Verstappen wins again, skirting questions of Red Bull future

After comfortably winning the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix on Saturday, Max Verstappen and Red Bull are cruising toward another championship season. Both, however, are refusing to be the first to blink in the deepening mystery regarding the three-time Formula One world champion’s future beyond 2024. The sort of victory witnessed at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit on Saturday night is what we’ve come to expect from this dominant Red Bull outfit. Verstappen led from pole, only briefly dropping to second after an early Safety Car, and was so far out in front that he was turning down his engine setting late on. It was utterly […]
