Starting Guide For This Season

Most people who invest in stocks, bonds, and mutual funds make long-term plays. They have college funds, retirement, and the future in mind when they make financial decisions. Yet, when the NFL regular season ends, so many people wash the year from their memory.

Before you forget the 2015 regular season entirely, jot down a few notes on certain teams. These nuggets of wisdom will be helpful when you look at futures in the second week of this season.

There’s a lot that should be remembered, here are a few things to keep in mind.

San Francisco 49ers

The general thinking on the 49ers is that the perennial contenders were a victim of a personnel exodus, leading to an awful 2015 season. The reality is they were 7-9 against the spread with a 5-3 mark at home. San Francisco has a decent core but question marks at two of the most important positions: coach and quarterback. Jim Tomsula is already out as coach, and Blaine Gabbert is a toss-up to return as the starting pivot. Add in the fact that the Niners play in a very difficult division, and the public will not trust them early in 2016. Look for San Fran to offer value in the early Super Bowl 51 futures.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins are not a well run franchise, but feature talent in a lot of key areas. They have a serviceable quarterback, a solid running back, a good core of wide receivers, a decent offensive line when healthy, and an above average front-seven. Lack of depth (especially on the o-line) and a weak secondary remain significant concerns, but those are areas that the new GM and coach will try to address in the offseason. (And whomever they hire should be upgrades on the over-matched duo of Dennis Hickey and Joe Philbin.)

Despite finishing the year with a losing record, the Fins knocked off three playoff teams during the season (Washington, Houston, and New England). With above average talent and improved leadership and depth, Miami should be more competitive next year if they can stay healthy.

San Diego Chargers

No team was more ravaged by injuries over the last two seasons than the Chargers. Couple that with the constant threat of relocation, and you had a banged-up squad playing at what amounted to neutral-site home games. The Chargers went 8-8 against the spread and 6-2 on the road. Picking third in the draft, San Diego will have an opportunity to address a position of need and that should help improve their running game.

Chicago Bears

John Fox is a winner. He took the Panthers to the Super Bowl with Jake Delhomme at quarterback and won a playoff game in Denver with Tim Tebow leading the offense. With the Bears, he took over a roster geared towards an up-tempo offense. That’s not how Fox likes to play. As the roster becomes molded to Fox’s style, the Bears will improve.

Interestingly, they weren’t a bad bet in 2015, even with a bunch of square pegs in Fox’s round holes. The Bears were 7-8-1 against the spread, and 70-percent of their SU losses came against playoff teams. HeritageSports is your best bet for online gaming! Sign up now at Heritagesports.eu
