Warriors seal West’ No.1 in Oracle season finale

The Golden State Warriors clinched the No. 1 seed throughout the Western Conference Match with a 131-104 blowout Triumph on the LA Clippers on Sunday night.

Sunday’s game took on added significance for those Warriors given that it was the final regular season game at Oracle Arena. The Warriors celebrated the occasion by wearing jerseys from the ”We Believe” era, which had been highlighted by the Warriors defeating the Dallas Mavericks from the first round of their 2007 playoffs, becoming the first 8-seed to knock off a No. 1 seed in a seven-game series.

As Curry took his warmup shirt after starting line up openings, while showing the jersey he smiled wide and screamed. The audience was more energetic at the start of the game, especially after a short video tribute into Warriors great Al Attles played after the time outside. Attles, who was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame has spent in a variety of roles over 50 years over the Warriors company.

The Warriors have said repeatedly that gearing the 1-seed up was not as critical as staying healthy down the stretch, however using the relaxation of homecourt advantage in the season at Oracle was important to the group. They accomplished that goal on Sunday and now have to wait patiently to get out who they’ll play next week.

The Warriors head into this playoff run hoping to eventually become the first club since the 1960s Boston Celtics to visit the NBA Finals five straight times. The Warriors are also trying to become the first club since the 2000-2002 Los Angeles Lakers to win back-to-back-to-back NBA championships. Trainers coach Steve Kerr said recently that he hoped he can give a number of his heart players a tiny rest going into the season’s last two games. It’s going to be interesting to see who stays that the Warriors have made the best seed and who plays. The Warriors shut the regular season with a road back-to-back against the New Orleans Pelicans and Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday and Wednesday.
