Olympic predictions Team USA

The Olympics have the capacity to surprise but in sports, we can talk about odds and predictions. The USA is likely to win a lot of medals in Rio. Both basketball teams should take gold. A lot of swimmers and gymnasts will win. Justin Gatlin might take down Usain Bolt last year at the IAAF World Championships. Gatlin had the 28-race win streak and all the fastest times of the year. Bolt had been ailing. But in the 100-meter final, a charging Bolt ran down Gatlin and won by 0.01 seconds. This year looks like a replay so far. Gatlin ran the […]

MLB Dodgers’ Disability List

Last week the Dodgers made an inevitable move, transferring Clayton Kershaw to the 60-day disabled list. Kershaw hadn’t pitched in a game since June, and hadn’t participated in aptly-named baseball activities since suffering a mid-July setback. He’s not eligible to return until August 27. Predictable or not, that doesn’t mean Kershaw’s move to the 60-day disabled list is irrelevant — rather, it has some major ramifications for multiple playoff spots. You probably know that the Dodgers entered Wednesday two games back in the National League West and 2.5 games ahead for the top wild-card spot. Credit that standing to a surprisingly strong July, during […]

MLB Changes After Trades

Last Monday the non-waiver trade deadline has come and gone, leaving teams to play with their new toys or wonder what might have been. What the trade deadline always does is dramatically change some teams, though often not as dramatically as we’d imagine. Let’s start with the Rangers/Brewers deal. The Rangers added a starting catcher, an outfielder with some pop, and a power bullpen arm. The Brewers, on the other hand, dropped two of their top bullpen arms, their catcher, and didn’t get much that’s major league ready. But the Rangers were already good and the Brewers were already bad. […]

Cavaliers Are Title Contenders in 2016–17

Attention lays on NBA’s 2015–16 champions, Cleveland Cavaliers and if the trio of Lebron, Irving and Love can pull of a repeat performance. While the three-headed monster helped the Cavaliers end Cleveland’s brutal 52-year championship drought the repeat may be tougher than ever, as the rest of the NBA is improving at a rapid rate. The Golden State Warriors have created their own “super team,” while the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Boston Celtics, and many other teams seem poised to push the Cavaliers. Fortunately, the Cavs still have plenty going for them, which is what makes a serious […]
